Really nervous about going abroad for a work trip

What do you think might happen to your family if you’re not there for a couple of days? Do you think your partner won’t be able to cope alone with anything that might come up?

Good advice, when you get back you'll probably wonder what you were worrying about!

I went through a phase of being really anxious when my eldest didn't want to come away with us and stayed at home for the weekend. I think it's almost normal to have these type of thoughts to a degree, but then some people will be on the extremes and either barely give it a thought which is also normal and fine. The far side of that is people like yourself and me that massively overthink, and if like myself think in worse case scenarios.
But when I've embraced the moment, you realise your fears and anxieties don't materialise, and over time it will get easier.
I believe a lot of my anxieties stem from a car accident as most of them are driving related and only developed after the accident.
Didn't you have similar concerns about going to Wembley and that all turned out fine presumably?
Additionally, your other thread about saving money, why don't you try and see this work trip as part of furthering your career which will lead to greater earning potential, short term pain long term gain.

I used to go to USA quite frequently. One other thing I always had with me is a copy of is the company travel insurance policy. Chances are you won't need it but better to have it. Also who made the travel arrangements who do you contact if a flight is cancelled? This company had an extensive travel policy that covered what could and couldn't be claimed for.

You are only missing one evening with them: a matter of a few hours before sleeping.

My wife used to go away on a regular basis UK, Europe, US. 5-6 times a year. First time it was a nervy time, but if it is planned well and you have colleagues it will come and go.
It was fine when there were two of us and on a couple of occasions it meant a free holiday for me, However once daughter arrived it was a different ball game. Down to me to be mum and dad for up to a week. What makes it easier now is modern communication, you are always contactable. I used to see my wife go off in a taxi to an airport and not hear from her until almost a day later when she arrived at a hotel somewhere in the US.

Many people have to be away from home for much longer than a couple of nights.
The military and merchant seamen for example - puts this into perspective

Yes I did have similar concerns, the issue is I am naturally a very anxious person and if I am doing something I have never done before it makes my anxiety go through the roof.
I am currently though speaking to someone about how to combat my general anxiety.

Hello all, so it is the day of the trip tomorrow and I’ve just got really emotional putting my little boy to bed knowing I’m not going to see him now until Thursday. My partner says I’m being ridiculous but I just feel incredibly upset and anxious about this trip.
