Ebay holding funds forever.
Hi,
I've been using Ebay happily for many years, and have a 100% score.
One week, I cleared a room with camera gear, and knocked up £900, which all sold, but Ebay stopped payment until I posted a copy of a passport or similar.
There's enough private details being skimmed, sold and sent around the world, and I don't want to add to it, so I refused.
I managed to return the money to the buyers, but Ebay still have £35 of mine, so I've had to write it off.
So beware!

If you refuse to provide ID, eBay will hold the funds indefinitely under regulatory compliance rules. However, under UK regulations, unclaimed funds held by financial institutions eventually fall under strict rules. If you contact eBay Customer Support (specifically asking for the Payments/KYC Escalations Team), you can request that they payout your final balance and formally close your account. In some rare cases, if the account balance is low and all transactions are fully refunded/resolved, they may manually process a final bank payout to the verified account on file without forcing an ID upload—though success depends on the agent.

verification is quite normal on all online sites once you reach a certain unspecified threshold. I’ve done it twice now (no idea why twice) over a period of about 27 years on eBay. Once on Etsy and Vinted and countless times when I used to sell on Amazon. EBay and Vinted were the easiest, a quick scan of my DL and 5 minutes later I was good to go.
Obviously if you decline to go through verification then you are no longer able to sell on eBay.
