Submitting readings a few days before the switch can be used as belt and braces approach, but you should really only be giving your final readings to your new supplier as those will be the ones that will be passed back to your old supplier by the third party.

    Thanks.

I've only tried to follow what they requested, respectively. I suspect the former account with Eon muddied the waters for them a touch.

Ovo makes no sense though, they explicitly said I need to submit 2nd August reads 'to make your final bill accurate', but consequently blocked me from being able to submit them.

To add a bit of seasoning, they also sent me a 'How did we do?; feedback question. 'Overall, from letting us know, to closing your account and getting your final bill, how easy did you find switching away from Ovo?'

    🙂

You shouldn't be giving your changeover reading to the old supplier: everything is driven by the new supplier.

Your new supplier will give their opening reading to your old supplier, who will use it as their closing reading. Then everything is hunky dory.

However, gremlins are lurking. You could unwittingly screw things up by giving a changeover reading to your old supplier. Unknown to you, The Mysterious Third Party can tweak it, even if the changeover reading is Smart. If the new supplier uses your reading to generate your final bill, you could find yourself paying for some energy twice.

I'm sure that's correct, but Ovo expressly asked for reads on that specific date. In the event, I couldn't comply as their software prevented me from following their explicit instructions.

Ovo sent me an email at the same time as that survey I quoted, with multiple bills attached, dating from October 25 to 27 July 26. They seem to think that was my final bill from them, but if I log into Ovo it is billing me for standing charges only on electric and gas, in the current billing period for 6 days. 6 days would take it up to 2nd August, and E.On Next say they are billing me from the 3rd.

It will only be a small amount of money, but which one will be billing me for usage from 28th July to 2nd August is not entirely clear yet!
