Company didnt pay me

I would have thought, rather than having the company change the declaration to HMRC, the more favourable outcome (from the OP's point of view at least) would have been to write to request that the company make the payment to the OP that the company has declared was made.

Thd OP seems more concerned about paying tax on the money than actually receiving the money.

Well, they've not been paid and then are being expected to pay out more.
If they were an employee and did work hours, then they should at least have been paid minimum wage.

They have not indicated they have pursued getting the money from whoever paid their wages.
They left and didn’t answer the umbrella company calls.
The money will be deducted in the company accounts and the OP needs to contact them to claim his wages

Claiming the wages isnt likely worthwhile….i didnt really do any meaningful work for them in the 2 weeks…..they would only reference me badly if i try and claim the wages…….but i do not want to pay tax on what i didnt earn.
I emailed them yesterday and they said wait a week and they'll see what they can do.

Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Apologies for the delay and thank you for your patience.
xxxxxxx has spoken to our accountants and we can confirm that we had added you to our records – however, we are concerned that HMRC are reporting that income tax was paid.
The following information may help:
Works Number xx
Tax Code 1257 w1m1
NI NP xxxxxxxxx
NI Table A
PAYE ref xxx/xxxxxxx
According to our records, as this was then week 1 and month 1, there was no tax or employee NI due – however there would have been £68.70 of Employers NI paid.
Can you check the HMRC records for the year as it should say the name of the employer and if it shows as "Acme Ltd", do let me have a screen shot and I will then look to tally this with HMRC.
As for instance if you had not worked in April 2025 or May 2025 being your first week/last week at the end of May then no tax would have been due.
If, you were given a P45 this would show the same, if any income was paid and if you had worked in the year to 05/04/26 and been paid the a P60 would have been issued. Any new employment after leaving "Acme Ltd" would have asked for your earnings prior to starting and this would have then been added to that employment for tax purposes.
It, may be an idea to look at any payslips (for the employer after you left us) to see what your tax code was.
All the best

HMRC have been notified by the employer that you were paid that amount.
You say you never received it.
Unless the company confirm to HMRC that they did not pay you HMRC will not remove that amount from your records.
There are two options1 the company update HMRC
Or
2 They pay you the outstanding money.
Just saying you do not want to pay tax on that money is not an option.By stressing about tax and NI being paid you have confused the company into thinking you are complaining about them deducting tax and NI.
They are confirming that neither would be deducted by them.Contact HMRC and ask them to send you confirmation of that payment having been reported by that named company.
Then you send that to the company with confirmation that you have no record of having received it and ask them for details of when and how the payment was made to you.
Either you will get proof or they will realise the payment was not made.1 -

Thanks, yes i have proof that HMRC think that i was payed that money…..its in the attached which i downloaded from my PAYE record for 2025-2026 from my Gov.uk tax account
Either you will get proof or they will realise the payment was not made.
Thanks, i have already told the Director that they have payed me nothing…when i first emailed the company, that was their first question to me…ie have i received any money from them…i replied no.
Did they issue you with a P45 when you resigned?
…No, i asked them verbally to "Pretend i had never been there and not to pay me anything"…..so i didnt think they had registered me for tax purposes…i never received any P45

So, share that with the company requesting that they either provide proof of making the payment to you that they have reported was made to the HMRC, or to make that payment to you now.
It is better for you to be paid the money by the company than for the company to correct the tax records.
