Best own brand supermarket white chocolate
Hi,
Can anyone recommend the best supermarket own brand white chocolate? For general eating but also sometimes melting for baking. I did really like the Sainsbury’s blue bar that was £2.30 but looks like just been discontinued and replaced with a new product with a different recipe and lower milk solids % (now 18% versus 23% before). Not keen on the Tesco own brand version nor the Sainsbury’s Stamford street or Tesco Mollys. Is the Aldi choceur any good?
thks

We really like the Aldi choceur, it’s a white chocolate for grown ups, rather than for children, like Milky bar. Haven’t used it for cooking though.

I'd even suggest giving the Aldi or Lidl value brand versions a try. The dark chocolate is pretty good for the price, although it's not even trying to be a high cocoa solids bar.

Thanks. Anything in particular that’s nice about the Aldi one and makes it feel more like for grown ups rather than children? Less of a sugar / sweetness overload and more of a nice creamy taste? I really like the Sainsbury’s taste the difference bar but that also seems to have disappeared recently and it pretty expensive too.

Thanks. The Aldi near me doesn’t sell the value brand versions but have had the Aldi value milk chocolate before and thought was decent. Good to melt and use as topping for things like marble cake too. So I’ll probably give the white a go next time I’m in a bigger Aldi.

The cheap white chocolate in both is very sweet, not grown-up.

The Aldi choceur has a vanilla taste - you can see the tiny black specks which are vanilla seeds

That could describe me at times. 😁

Thanks, you’ve convinced me now! Sounds like it might be similar to the Sainsbury’s taste the difference one which found out also now been discontinued.

The Lidl stuff is pretty good.

bought the Aldi choceur……really nice so thanks for the recommendation. Couldn’t see the tiny black specks so not sure if they’ve recently modified recipe at all but does have a vanilla taste anyway.
