MonBS AGM (from Reg Saver thread)
Post by @Chaykin
BS AGMs: Having so many accounts with various BSs
inevitably means a lot of AGM correspondence - mostly via email nowadays
although I have received one from Monmouthshire BS in the post
recently. I tend not to bother voting etc. unless there's a prize draw
or they say they will pay charities for voting.
Could we not overwhelm some small BS if we all were to vote a certain way? Demand a 10% savings account or fire the CEO. 🤣
MonBS will donate £1 to charity if you vote, and a further £1 if you then choose to receive future AGM info by email. That's a win-win

Thanks for that, must admit I wasn't inclined to even open the chunky envelope from MonBS once I saw 'AGM' written on it.
Will now do so and vote.

I try to vote when any BS is willing to let me vote at their AGM, though I always tend to vote:
- to receive the financial report (because why not);
- against reappointing the auditors (personally I feel financial institutions should have more stringent rules to prevent them getting 'chummy' with a longstanding auditor, e.g. shorter reappointment limits or cooperative auditing);
- against reappointment of any board member who hasn't been bothered to provide a photo, blurb or summary about themselves on the BS's website (because if they can't even get that right, what is the point of them);
- against the board/directors' remuneration if that BS has done something to !!!!!! me off that year.
These are my AGM voting principles; and if you don't like them, I can definitely get new ones to mandate that 10% savings account!

Received mine today. I note the reply envelope says "Please don't use this envelope to send anything other than your AGM voting form", while the other forms say to include in the reply envelope. So that's nice and clear!

I assume they mean don't use the AGM envelope to send them, say, a savings account application, a maturing passbook, or a payment cheque for example.

Once I logged in to vote, I realised I could do everything else online too. At first it looked like I'd need to use the envelope if I wanted to register for paperless voting in the future, so would only be sending back the other stuff.

Yes one of the questions on the survey was to rate how clear their communication was, so I had a bit of a giggle about the confusing instructions on returning said survey.

I have mixed feelings on the charity donations that building societies use to encourage us to vote. I'm all for giving to charity, and I do so. But in this case the building society directors are using members' reserves to donate to a charity. I'd be perfectly happy if they donated from the directors' remuneration package but it's a bit odd to encourage members to vote by giving up their own reserves for a charity nominated by the directors.

There is also the fact that it encourages members to donate their vote, leading to overwhelming support for whatever resolutions are recommended.
