ANPR Monitored Private Car Parks

I recently received a private parking fine, i .e. not a council fine, at Bigbury in Devon overlooking Burgh Island for overstaying the two hours for which I had paid. There was no parking app available so I had to pay at a machine when I arrived and decide how long I was going to be there. When on holiday and with uncertain weather, how on earth do you know how long you’ll be there? Chatting to other customers at the pub on the island is how we ‘overstayed’ as we lost track of time. The car park is ANPR controlled. Surely a fairer system is to charge you upon leaving for the time you’ve been parked as then there is no chance of overstaying. Of course, this would result in a loss of revenue for the car parking operator. I believe that having to decide how long you’re going to park when you arrive is unfair, more likely to result in a fine and should be banned.

We agree, except that nobody was "fined". Only Magistrates issue fines, not private parking companies !

Which parking company issued the PCN ?

You haven't paid it, we hope?

This wasn't a fine and nobody pays these scam invoices all the time the industry remains unregulated.

    Which PPC?

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You appear to have fallen into the private parking trap, which some would call a scam, as you have called this a fine.

its nothing of the sort, its not a penalty either. you will have received a parking charge notice.

the first step is not to panic and pay, it does need dealing with, but you shouldn't pay the parasites a penny

  • The parking company was RCP Parking Ltd. and regrettably I paid the £60 ‘fine’ which was reduced from £100 if paid within two weeks.

My thoughts are that depending upon the location of the car park, ypu should appy pressure on the owner to try and get your money back, or at keast make it a nuisance
