Mcr Airport drop off fines
Hi all, last year I posted about receiving debt repayment letters around June 2025 demanding payment for a sum of £170 after I dropped someone at the airport a few weeks prior. I didn't pay (wasnt aware that I had to, my mistake,) and drove away. I was advised to completely ignore the letters. I did. The letters duly stopped and I assumed that was that.
Anyway they've started arriving again, over a year later. But now I've just received a text to my mobile from 'trace debt recovery' stating 'you've received our letters, your debt remains unpaid' with a link which i have not clicked on.
Aside from the fact I have no idea how they obtained my mobile number, can anyone advise the best course of action here? They're clearly not giving up, would it be best if I just bit the bullet and engaged? Thanks in advance.

May I suggest posting this problem on the "Free Traffic Legal Advice" website? There are many very knowledgable and helpful people on there with years of experience in these matters and, of course, there are no fees or anything.
The section you need is the Private Parking one at: https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/
Unless things have changed very recently, the airport is covered by bye-laws which takes it outside the Protection of Freedoms Act meaning they can only enforce any charges against the driver and not the keeper. In that case (unless you have told them who was driving) it is quite straightforward to fight.0 -
no need to post this on another forum you will get the same answers
you should not have ignored as very easy to beat

Incorrect. No need. We do these daily and have a perfectly good Airport Drop Off Group Thread with 100% win guaranteed if people appeal in good time.
" I was advised to completely ignore the letters. I did."That was silly.
If you got the PCN from APCOA at the time, you could have killed it with one email.
If you only got debt letters then we suspect you failed to update your logbook.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Your mobile number has been traced by Trace Debt Recovery (their company name is the clue!). But they are just another DRA feeding at the private parking charges trough. Deal with them like all DRAa - ignore them. Please read NEWBIES FAQ Announcement, post number FOUR.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
