Martin Mere or Cala Gran- are they ok?

Has anyone stayed at Martin Mere or Cala Gran?
I am after booking a Sun Holiday and wondered if they are ok, we don't have a car, so would be relying on public transport and taxis a couple of times.

I have looked at bed and breakfast for 2/3 nights, and it is very expensive for 2 adults and 2 kids, so the sun holiday should be cheaper.
Thanks for any help.

We did the sun offer last year, at Prestahaven in Wales and it was brill, but bad for getting buses and taxis.

Hiya, I have stayed at Cala Gran. I took my 6year old daughter there in July. It wasn't too bad. She loved the pool and they have an outside splash area where you can sit and have something to eat or drink and the kids can play under the water. Entertainment was a bit stale but the staff try their best. I don't drive, so we caought the train and then got a taxi from the station. Taxi was £17 each way, but you can catch the bus. I think there is an all day ticket which you can also use on the trams for about a fiver. I guess it depends on how many cases you have! I am hoping to book through the Sun this year, first time of doing it- little confused at the mo.

If you are thinking of going into Blackpool they are quite a long way out and public transport isn't too good as it's rural so it may be expensive on fares.

We went to marton Mere about 5 years ago and it was really nice.
Theres a bus stop on site so you havent got far to walk to catch the bus into Blackpool, from what i remember a 20 min bus ride...ish
We went in peak period time so there was plenty to do, Id certainly go back again.

    Thanks for the replies.
Another moneysaver recommended the travel Inn (now premier inn)
That works out at £150 for 2 days (2 adults 2 kids and all you can eat breakfast)
It's a lot for 2 days though. plus wristbands, food and trip up the tower?

Pontins do some great offers if you watch out. Half board and within walking distance to the tram stop.

Im not 100% sure but I think thats still quite a distance from central Blackpool. The tower is not all its cracked up to be, we went last year and only stayed in a couple of hours, not worth the money (in my opinion).

It depends what you actually want, if you go to Marton Mere/Cala Gran you have things to keep the kids entertained, you have swimming, kids clubs and you have entertainment on the evening and that suited us. If however you plan on staying in central Blackpool (including pleasure beach) it can work out expensive.

I dont know the ages of the children but id highly reccomend Blackpool Zoo, we go every time we visit Blackpool. Acroos from the Zoo is also the park, so in nice weather you can have the full day out.

Re pontins, ive never been the Blackpool one but went to Southport, based on that id go with Haven every time. Southport wasnt very nice and ive heard horror stories from other pontins.

I am probably not the best to give advice as I hate Blackpool it's tacky, dirty and overpriced but if you really want to go look out for the times when the pleasure beach offer 2 for 1 bands etc.....
