Probate error

I need to withdraw from the probate application I have done online, I applied sent original will . However they have come back asking questions that are out of my understanding, decided to get a solicitor to do it as I should have done in the first place .
Am I right in assuming I won't get the fee back and will need to pay for the original will to be returned ?

I think one option would be to to do to a solicitor and get them to help you with those answers and then continue the process after their advice

Once you have gone this far you can’t really withdraw from the process but you can get professional help if you need it. Before you do that can you tell us what they are asking for? Probate is usually a fairly straight forward process and I doubt that whatever has been requested is not something we have not come across before.

Most people who are named as executors of a will engage a solicitor to do the work for them. The solicitor's fees are paid from the funds in the estate. You started the process on your own but there shouldn't be any issue if you now decide to seek the help of a solicitor. You don't have to withdraw your application.

@kermchem do you think that the people who post to this sub-forum are representative of the population as a whole? I don't think they are; I think they mostly represent the minority who think "could I do probate myself?".

I am not going to get into the 'most' argument, but just to point out it is also possible to do the probate yourself, but ask ( and pay) for a solicitors opinion/advice on just one ( or two) topics that you are not sure about.

Thank you to those have replied suggesting seeing a solicitor with the probate issues . I am happy to say a local firm are seeing me on Friday. Fingers crossed they can sort out my original application for a fee of course .

Just want to add that, as someone else here said, there are many people in this forum who have experience with the kinds of questions that the probate service can come back with. I had several rounds of questions from them and people here helped greatly.
If the solicitor can’t fully ’take over’ the application you’ve already started, you might actually find you get more useful support here. if you’re willing to share the details of what you’ve been asked for.
