Severn Trent Water

No doubt other water companies could be substituted.

I have received numerous e-mails from Severn Trent warning of a water shortage, higher consumption (not me!) and the need to save water.

A house two doors away have an external water meter installed under a pavement cover. For the past week it's been leaking and is rapidly becoming worse. The volume of water has lifted the cover.

I checked on S.T's website to make sure it has been reported - it has.

Their words, my bold - "We are aware of the leak and are working hard to repair it by the 28th." So if it carries on until then, it will be close on two weeks and x litres of water wasted.

So Severn Trent, stop preaching to me about saving water.

..typical of privatised companies. We have had 6+ months of rain, then after a few weeks of sunshine we have water shortages….who would have thought??

you can unsubscribe from those texts and emails, I did last week after being inundated and similarly seeing multiple leaks around the streets

I hope the leak is on the "street" side of their meter. If not, I wonder how the volume consumption on the meter will be determined as mostly from the leak?

This might sound a bit flippant, but the wild birds are really enjoying bathing in and drinking from the leakage!

I’ve had a good response from Anglian water, a plumber came to do some work in my house but couldn’t turn of the stopcock as it had seized.

Anglian water came down the same day to assess the issue, and arrived the following day to replace the stopcock, it did go downhill a bit when they had to return three more times to sort out defects in their workmanship but they were always prompt and responsive.

If the leak is downstream (house side) of the meter, the water company may say it is not their issue to fix and either might not fix or might only fix if the householder pays the cost.

absolutely diabolical. But they have huge salaries and dividends to fund of course, rather than building reservoirs or keeping the system in good Oder and improving it.
stupid privatisation - leads to better service?! My R’s it does🤬
