    I am always confused when people say the Scottish system is better. What are the good points of the Scottish system that make it better. I recently moved house (in Scotland) and no binding contracts were exchanged until a few days before we moved. Before that either of us could have pulled out of the sale.

    When were missives concluded? Because that's the point at which the buyer and seller are legally bound to proceed, and is typically done much earlier in the process. After that, either party could still pull out, but would be open to the other claiming losses.

    If missives were concluded only shortly beforehand, then you're correct then either could pull out.

    Missives were concluded a couple of days before the move. I understand that it's the normal procedure in Scotland, particularly when there is a chain.
