Can anyone help with the following pc problem please?
Immediately after erasing data from a CD-RW and then reformatting it I got the confirmation message that the process was complete. But then I got a blue screen (BSOD?) with text on it:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer......"
"Technical information:
***STOP: 0x00000044 (0x8228E008, 0x00000D63, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"
The first time it happened I wasn't at my computer to see the reformatting confirmation message so, after a computer power down and restart (there was a message which said "The system has recovered from a serious error") I reformatted the disc again to ensure it was completed. And I ended up with the blue screen again....
Any ideas please??

Many thanks.

Those BSOD error codes are really annoying, as they give away very little useful info about the cause of the problem.
However, one suggestion from MS is that when the machine reboots, choose the "last known good" configuration.
There is also some evidence to suggest that the problem may be driver-related, so something you might want to try is to go into Device Manager, find your CD drive and use the "Reinstall driver" option - you'll probably need the Windows install disk to hand, and just let it find the standard device driver.
Good luck....0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the reply - I'll give it a go.
But won't using the Windows install disc simply cause the BSOD?

Doh... you spotted a minor flaw in that plan!
Actually, it seems that if you uninstall the drive and reboot the machine, it gets reinstalled automatically - at least it does on my PC - so Windows must keep a local copy of the most common drivers. rather than needing the CD. But YMMV, as they say over there...0 -
Problem Solved!!
Fortunately I noticed that when reformatting the CD right at the start of the problem the application doing the job was called "InCD". This turns out to be a part of the NERO package I have installed on my pc. After advice from a friend I uninstalled "InCD" and.....problem solved!!!
