Yes, I agree - the record should be removed ideally.
Notice of correction might not be the best process.

Apologies to the OP if I misled.

With regard to the job offer withdrawal / reinstatement, I assume the employer won't just take the candidate's word but, if the error can be properly corrected one would like to think a good employer would be willing to reconsider.

The starting point should be to try to get the reason for the job rejection in writing. You then have something to beat people with.

Not sure about that as a starting point - it might come in useful at some future juncture but OP says that it was because the son had at least three debts recorded and that at least two weren't accurate, so, given the stipulation that two would have been acceptable, it's arguable that Scottish Power weren't solely responsible for the rejection, and the employer is probably more likely to put in writing something more like 'you were allowed two debts but had at least three' than 'it was the Scottish Power one that swung it'.

As above, to me the priorities should be ascertaining if there's any way in which the job offer retraction could be reversed, and getting Scottish Power to recognise and correct the error, plus carefully reviewing all the credit files for any other damage…

The point of getting written evidence (which does not need to mention Scottish Power) is that it promotes you into someone who might cause repercussions, rather than just being an ordinary complainant.
