Just to clarify a point you raised which I omitted to comment. On 10 October 2024 the supplier indicated I was £151.85 in credit to EO.

The supplier issued a revised final bill on 3 November 2025 for £3406.70.In evidence in February 2026 the supplier maintained that was the correct bill. However after the EO decision in March the bill became £4192.01 .And to compound this situation in 1 May 2026 from EO new charges became £5308.36 and my payments figure materially exceeded the supplier stated payments figure.

Essentially a catch up bill was issued on 3 November 2025 never previously billed.

  • I fear you may have unfortunately misinterpreted the rules relating to backbilling.
I would refer you in particular to exceptions to prohibition as stated in the appropriate SLC, in particular condition 21BA.2(b)

It doesn't matter whether your account was in credit or debit, only whether the relevant standing & unit charges were previously applied to your account (and were not subsequently removed by later revised bill.)

Your distinction is between charges and the overall account balance.

The key question is not whether your account was in credit or debit at a particular time. Instead, it is whether the standing charges and unit charges for energy consumed before the back-billing cut-off had already been validly billed to your account.

    Applied to my position:

    • If British Gas had already billed you for those pre-3 November 2024 charges (and those charges remained on my account), they would generally be considered sought charges. The back-billing rules would not normally require them to be removed simply because a later bill was issued.
    • If those charges had never previously been billed, or were removed and then reintroduced in a later recalculation because of British Gas’s own billing failures, they may constitute unsought charges. Those are the types of charges the back-billing protections are designed to prevent suppliers from recovering where the supplier is at fault.
    • A secondary aspect:
    • My dispute is that British Gas has
    • never transparently demonstrated which charges it removed, which charges remained, and how it arrived at the revised balance
    • . Instead, you have seen materially different balances (£3,406.70, £4,192.01, £5308.36 and differing payment figures without a full reconciliation.

    • I also have the situation where the back billing calculation used and payments attributed to my account cannot be reconciled with my bank statements and the supplier payment transaction history..My payments are significantly higher than the BB calculation of minimally £1600 and that doesn’t even take into account substantial payments and credits from 3 November 2024 to 19 February 2025 of a further approximately 1k.

Any thoughts on the accuracy of bills side of things.

    Thanks.
