New sizing rules for ebay clothing

As i don't sell clothes I haven't fully read this yet, but for anyone that does it might be worth checking your listings. Today's announcement is cut and pasted below. Several months back Vinted changed their sizing categories and caused absolute chaos purely because they went for a straight formula of Xs/S/M/L with non UK sizing attached leaving clothes sellers with a dilemma along the lines of a label saying M states 12/14 , but with the increase of people buying and selling clothes from places like Shein an M there would be smaller, a 10 or so. Added to that getting a warning if you listed it wrongly, and even if you listed it correctly buyers rarely seem to read descriptions on Vinted- so ending up with lots of returns for wrogn sizing shown. Hopefully ebay is not following that pattern.

~~~~~~
Starting in August, we’re standardising sizes across Apparel and Footwear listings to help your items show up in searches and give buyers clearer sizing information.
To continue listing and selling without interruption, review and update your listings to use supported sizes before this change takes effect. Please note that you’ll be unable to create or revise listings with unsupported sizes.
Supported sizes include:
  • •Alpha sizes (2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL)
  • •Numeric sizes (where applicable)
  • •Region-specific formats (US, UK, EU)
To see supported sizes for your category, list an item and view the size options available from the drop-down menu.
What you need to do
Head to active listings in Seller Hub to review your listings and update any unsupported sizes in the size field.
You may need to update items where the size field has:
  • •Blank, missing, placeholder sizes
  • •Custom size descriptions, like “See description” or “N/A”
  • •Multiple sizes in a single field, like ‘S/M/L’
If there’s no exact match, choose the closest option and add more detail in your item description. Please note that, for some listings, sizes may now appear in a standardised format where there was a clear match. For example, “Medium” may appear as “M”.
If you use APIs, File Exchange or third-party tools, make sure your sizing matches eBay’s supported options.
    As a buyer on the receiving end of this situation -
    When Vinted started this it did indeed cause problems to buyers because we saw several different sizes mentioned in one listing.
    Unless the buyer asked questions, to clarify which was the correct size, they received something that wasn't actually what they were expecting.
    On several occasions images didn't show a figure, the description didn't mention a figure but the system stated it was a specific size.
    If the buyer isn't experienced, or doesn't want to ask, they'd have to return the item for refund.
    On numerous occasions buyers never answered my own question so i didn't go ahead with the purchase.
    On the occasions they did it transpired the item wasn't what the system had stated - much frustration for the seller.
    The Vinted change did cause a lot of confusion but I agree that sellers in some part need to be more careful when they list generally. I happened to be looking for a particular style of blouse and am quite shocked at the number of sellers who don't actually mention a size at all- and just put something like Per Una blouse as a title and then 'worn once' in description with a single photo. Then if they have ticked say M which denotes 12/14, only one of which would fit me. So I then have to ask a question, and on Vinted asking a question is seen by some sellers as 'being cheeky' and has got me blocked (if someone reading this is not on Vinted- then believe me both buyers ad sellers take offence about absolutely everything!).
    How much effort would it be to say 'Per Una blouse size 14' and then , as suggested by Vinted in their FAQs - actually take a photo of the label and mention the exact size?
    If someone can't be bothered to either mention the size or show a photo of the size label, then - unless it's something that I really,really want - I just move on.
    Ditto for sellers who think a single photo is sufficient to pique my interest. It isn't.
    Re the Vinted change in sizing - I welcomed it as it brought the sizing more in line with UK sizing.
    However, it cocked up my saved searches.
    All my eBay listings have the size in the title and in the description and in the photos - both the size label and physical measurements with a tape measure.
    Not sure what I'll need to do when this change comes in.
