Insuring a kitten that isn't spayed yet

I recently adopted a stray kitten that's around 4 to 5 months old. He's been looked over by a vet, got all the vaccinations, etc but he's a bit runty. He's tiny so the vet recommends waiting for a month or two before spaying him.

How would I go about getting insurance? When they ask if he's been spayed, do I say no because he hasn't been yet, or yes cause he will be soon?

If the former, the policy is more expensive, if the latter, I assume a refund won't be forthcoming after I tell the insurer of the change in circumstances. The other half is seemingly buying every cat toy/tower/house/feeder/treats/etc that she comes across, I just want to make sure I get the insurance right.

Spaying is usually a term applied to female animals, but you're referring to your kitten as "he".

    What sex is the kitten?

I'd wait until the fix is done and then get the insurance sorted.

That runs the risk of needing vet treatment and not being insured.

He's male, didn't know there was a difference in terms.

After a bit of searching, lifetime cover for 3.5K and £110 excess and difference in premium is like £30. Might just take the hit, don't like the idea of him not being insured up to two months, he's a bit of an energetic psycho.

As your kitten I’m not neutered yet you must answer no.

You are asked what the current situation is, not what might happen in the future future.

If you answer yes and then need to claim youR vet’s medical records will show your kitten is not neutered and your policy could be voided.

That coukd result in a higher cost to you than an extra premium.

once they are neutered you can advise the company of the change.

    Have you compared different policies?

Do not just go with the cheapest. Cheap is usually cheap for a reason , which you might only find out when a claim is refused.

make sure you know exactly what cover you have and for how long..

    Male kittens are castrated

    Female kittens are spayed

Or, there is a general term that applies to both; neutered

3.5k is a very low amount of cover, I wouldn't insure a cat for less than £7-10k personally.

Are you planning on keeping him inside until the op? Most accidents tend to be males looking around for females, and they do mature fairly young.
