Upgrade camera

Hi all,

I am looking for advice in regards to my dslr canon 2000d camera and if and what to upgrade it to. I bought my 2000d about 6 years ago and I have loved it. Sadly the camera sensor became scratched. I have fallen out of love with photography due to this as it is spoiling my images.

I am going to be getting some money in my bank for a reason which i do not want to share. I will likely use my credit card to pay for for both protection and while i am wating for the money to drop. My husband and I do have a good chunk of savings but i am the type of person who really thinks of what they are spending and i do not want to regret spending it. I am looking to upgrade my camera as it is pointless repairing it due to cost. I have seen people talk about mirrorless camera and i do like the idea of a flip screen camera so i can take shots from various angles without bending over to look in viewfinder. I have seen the R50 from canon a good shout although they keep saying its entry level. I do want a camera i can use but also its alot of money to drop. then again I have had my 2000d for 6 years and really enjoyed usiing it so if i get the same life lenthg it would be a cheap hobby in long run as i already have various lenses i like.

I have been diagnosed with hypermobility and oosgood schlatters disease so going low down to view will be tricky. I also seen the camera is a bit lighter and more compact so that might help. Ideally i want to keep the range of lenses i have so looks like getting a mount to enable me to use them.

Any advice would be apprciated.

Budget max 800 with mount. I rather have new than pre ownwed as i do not know how previous owner looked after it.

have you investigated the cost of getting the sensor cleaned, or replaced if necessary?

If you are prepared to buy from MPB, I would look at a used Canon EOS R50 rather than spending the full budget on a more expensive body. MPB give a 12 month warranty so much reduces the risk buying 2nd hand from a private seller.

MPB currently has used R50 bodies at roughly £494–£544. Add the RF-S 18–45mm kit lens at about £54–£70 and the RF-S 55–210mm telephoto at about £174–£184. Depending on condition, that produces a complete two-lens mirrorless outfit within budget when memory cards are added.

That would cover most of the range likely provided by the existing 2000D lenses, while being smaller and lighter and giving you the fully articulating screen you need. The R50 may be called entry level, but its autofocus and general performance are a substantial step up from the 2000D.

I would ask MPB for a quotation for the 2000D and all the existing lenses. Even with the scratched sensor, they may offer something for the body, while the lenses could make a useful contribution towards the new kit. If one of the current lenses is unusually good or expensive, it may be worth keeping and buying the EF-EOS R adaptor, but I would not buy an adaptor merely to retain basic 18–55mm or 75–300mm kit lenses.

A used EOS R10 is another possibility and has more physical controls, but MPB bodies currently start at about £659. Once a lens is added, it consumes almost the whole budget. For someone coming from a 2000D and wanting a light camera with a flip screen, the R50 plus two native lenses is probably the more balanced purchase.

Be careful, it's import from Hong Kong and price shown is VAT free. You may be charged VAT if HMRC feels like it, plus warranty may not be UK useful. read the T & Cs very carefully

Amazon UK, of all people, has Canon EOS R50 Mirrorless Vlogging Camera (Black) w/RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 for £599 delivered.

Could be worth using an EF-EOS R adaptor on mirror-less body with existing lenses, if they are actually Canon EF or EF-S, rather than old third-party lenses with uncertain compatibility.

I've bought 'grey' imports through https://www.cotswoldcameras.co.uk/ and never had an issues, however they use independents for warranty repairs.

Im thinking of just buying rhe body. The ones I've seen on amazon are sold by other people.

We went to wex and they were saying get the camera worj rhe lit lens as the adapter will reduce focus. I've seen focus is not an issue with adapter. But why would I get the kit lens when rhey are rubbish amd have similar range already in my other lenses

Not sure on the type of adaptor you refer to, but my adapters, mirrorless Fuji & Lumix, are basically spacers, there are no lenses or glass to alter or change focus. In fact with mirrorless you can use Focus peaking to ensure precise focusing.

Not all kit lenses are rubbish, but your choice, and just sometime the lens and camera bundle is less than body alone, some buy both to sell on the kit lens and offset some of the cost. Not something I could be bothered with.

I could as i gave a similar focal range in my current cameras. I need to work out if its worth it though as I need an adapter.
