Enterprise Car Club charge for late return

It's in the T&Cs so cannot be unauthorised as you have to agree to the T&Cs and the fact they have used the car shows that the original contract at least was formed.
As to the OP - what do the T&Cs say about when a contract is formed? For mail order companies its almost universally when the goods are dispatched and legally they consider your "buy now" and payment an offer to contract which they must accept and that acceptance is manifested by the goods dispatch.
It is possible that the car club has something similar, your payment just demonstrates you are willing to enter into an amendment to a contract but requires some action from them to formally accept it an until they do that action its only an offer.
I dont know how the mechanics of the car club work to be able to argue that you being able to continuously use the vehicle should be evidence of the fact they accepted the offer. Clearly the car is going to automatically lock up at the second the hire should end as you could be doing 80mph on the motorway but maybe if the engines stopped it cant be restarted? Again though police etc arent going to be too happy with a major highway being blocked by a hire car that overran its booking whilst stopped at lights etc.0
