So it's calculated per pay period, but you can only ask for a refund if your annual income is less than the threshold.
If they want to make it per month then they should do just that and have monthly earnings numbers for the thresholds in all the paperwork

the easiest thing to do, without turning down overtime, is to try and smooth your monthly income eg by not putting in overtime claims too punctually if you want to move some overtime to the next month’s pay calculation.
