Travel car hire insurance question
Hello, hopefully just a quick question! I have hired a car from carwiz with their basic insurance package which states
- Unlimited mileage
- Collision Damage Waiver with deductible (£1600)
- Theft Protection with deductible (£1600)
- Third Party Liability Insurance
- Assistance 24h/day
I have also bought excess cover from Eversure which covers
Section 1: Excess Reimbursement £10,000 (Total for the term of the policy)
Towing Costs £1,000
Administrative Charges £7,000
Section 2: Personal Possessions £300 (£75 per item)
Section 3: Lockout & Key Cover £500 (Maximum £100 for Locksmith Charges)
Section 4: Misfuelling £1,000
Section 5: Curtailment of Rental £300 (Max £30 per day)
Section 6: Drop Off Charges £300
Section 7: Road Rage & Car Jacking £1,000
I think I'm adequately covered but they tried to sell me more insurance when picking up the car (which I refused). Could anyone confirm if I'm ok or not? Thanks!

Appears OK overall cover, but as always the devil is in the detail, so read the policy documents carefully.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.1 -
As long as you remember that you will have to pay the £1,600 excess up front and then recover it from your insurance. Some people get unstuck as they dont have the credit limit to allow the hire company to hold the excess.
It's good to understand your policy properly and the exact requirements. Normally they will require paperwork from the hire car company to show what repairs have been done to trigger the excess requirement, some hire car companies can be difficult to get these from. Some firms used to not cover claims that fell below the hire car excess (eg if its a £1k repair then technically you are paying for the repair not the excess) but they seem less common than they used to be and was more of a problem with "lifestyle excess cover"
