The issue is many buyers are going to hold what you referred to as outdated opinions, given the media coverage over the years. And that will impact on number of people willing to buy the OPs property should they come to sell it.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.0 -
If I was buying I would probably care more that:
- you live next to restaurant
- you live next to abandoned restaurant so hard to tell what will be there next, loud nightclub? abandoned squatters house?
- you live next to neighbour that has overgrown garden
- …
Knotweed would be at the very bottom of the list really, probably just to keep an eye for it.

Don't strim it. You need as much leaf coverage as possible for the weedkiller to take effect.

Glyphosate is potentially unsafe. It is classified as a carcinogen by WHO, for example, although not all authorities agree. So, if you are going to spray it around, you need good PPE.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
Not forgetting you can't just let yourself into your neighbours property and start hacking things down and spreading chemicals lol.

And if you are trying to buy industrial strength glyphosate, you also need training and certificates in the safe handling & use. Domestic grade weedkillers may not be as effective against JKW.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
