Mobile phone for elderly parents which will be their main phone.

I don't know where to start looking or even if a mobile is the right way to go.

It will have to be a mobile with a battery that will last a good few hours.

They do not understand technology so I'm even wondering if a mobile will be too much for them, with app updates etc.

I'm not sure if it will confuse them seeing notifications etc.

Perhaps there are some mobile phones designed for the elderly that are known to be very good?

There is also VOIP to think about. Something I don't know much about, which will mean more investigating by me.

My parents don't have a great deal of money and my mum does like talking on the phone and from I've seen VOIP can be quite expensive.

Any help, to give me an idea in what direction to go will be greatly appreciated.

    What is their current set-up?

Why are you planning a change?

    Do they have internet access?

Decent mobile signal inside their house? On all networks?

Their contract ends with Vodafone in a few months time, before it ends I want to explore as many options as possible.

They have full fibre and digital phoneline. The digital line breaks up every so often. I've contacted Vodafone. They fixed it but its back again.

The money they pay each month if I renew with Vodafone will most probably be higher than what they are paying now.

If I decide to move them away from Vodafone I want to know which direction is best to go.

They have decent mobile signal from 3 and EE.

I should have titled the thread differently.

VoIP isn’t that expensive - they can move to a third-party provider and keep their number.

I tried the Doro phones. Had to send it back, because more than once the SIM card slipped inside the phone. It could have been a one-off, but I couldn't trust it with a vulnerable individual

Bear in mind that some people with reduced hearing will struggle on a mobile but be able to hear over a landline, so that's worth a trial run if applicable.

    How about:

Looks like a traditional phone, mains powered with battery backup

If they have "full fibre and a digital phone-line" and you're worried about them coping with the change, then maybe staying with phone/fibre would be best.

What do they use to access the internet? PC? Tablet?

If you ditched the fibre, how would they access the internet?

Although not very MSE sometimes, the cheapest option is not the most suitable/practical - just my 2p worth.

I've had a closer look at VOIP.

Found this which seems like a good price for unlimited minutes:

Something to think about. Hopefully it will be easy to setup.

I'm also thinking about maybe getting a dedicated Voip phone. Before I start searching does anyone know of good makes and models to look at, something basic.
