Buying TV-Help needed please

 Hisense or TCL make great value options, while they might no be the brands you are familiar with, they are good TVs.

They also use the Roku operating system, which for me seems easier to use than some others. The only downside to these TVs ( in my opinion) is that if you watch something older in SD ( standard definition ) the quality is not great, but in HD the picture is fine.

You can't generally go wrong with a Samsung and this is £239 plus a free 5 year warranty when registered with Samsung within 90 days

I think there are at least four 'grades' of Samsung TVs, from budget to top line. This is the budget one.

Family member bought the next grade up last year - 49 inch for £350. After 6 months it was bust, and after some delay it is currently with Samsung for repair.

Although it is useful to have a 5 year warranty, I think most problems with TVs happen quite early on, and then after that they tend to be trouble free.

Where as conversely we have 4 Samsung TVs some as old as 10 years and no issues.

To add balance and I suggest all manufacturers have the same

Yes, I think good reliability is the norm with TVs ( I have three LG sets with no issues). I meant my family member did not have the luck of the draw by getting a duff one.

Avoid retailers who say 5 years warranty if it is via an insurance company, I lost out big time when I had tv which was not repairable.

Don't rush - carry out enough research.

You say you just want 'terrestrial'. Fair enough. But… Freely and FreeviewPlay add a really helpful extra feature, and that's the ability to scroll back and view/catch up the program you missed, or had to nip to the loo during.

Yes, they need an interweb connection, but since you are on here, I assume you have BB in your home?

Really really really worth having, and not a problem to set up. You will chuckle when you use it. Darn - missed the beginning of Pointless - I know, I'll just 'watch from the beginning'. Ach, yesterday's Frasier? Nae prob - I'll just scroll back through the guide…
