It's not the responsiblilty of the customer to tell a tradesperson how to do their job. There's no 'arguably' about it. Or do you think the OP should have checked the drill bit, the drill, the screws, the standard of the van used to get the tradesman there, etc…?

Thank you. I am glad to see some common sense on here, because quite frankly, some of the posts on my thread are seriously ridiculous, especially the first comment (which got removed now).

It is clear the builder is at fault, so it is a shame this thread got derailed but a number of posters and thus did not get much help from my actual questions. Such a shame.

My question is is there anything more we should do to protect ourselves in case for whatever reason the carpet stains don't get removed?

To answer your actual question: No, not really at this point. Wait to see what the cleaning company can do before considering next steps. There is little to be gained by pre-empting their failure as any communications you made with other parties would be met with "But that hasn't happened yet". Also, your next steps would be determined by the outcome of the cleaning attempt, which you don't yet know.

IF it happens that cleaning is not successful, then your next step would be to go back to builder (initially) and tell them that they have not rectified the issue.
