Just installed solar, battery and heat pump in the quest for net zero off grid electricity.

Terminating gas completely as not required and everything has gone well with one observation about the electricity generators and suppliers when trying to get an SEG tariff.

They stop you applying early as you must have your MCS for the suppler/DNO, then you’ve got to get them to communicate together to get an export MPAN. Timescale for this seems to be anywhere from 3-12 weeks basically down to when they feel like it, not a good advert for the industry when it should just be a simple electronic exchange of information. The sting in this period you will give them 100’s of KwH for free, 800 KwH and counting in our case, which they will take and resell at their rates, which is a lot when you multiply by the number of installations going on in the industry….bit of a scam in my opinion.

You'll be pleased to learn that's not true.

Unmetered solar generation doesn't exist in the energy payments system, so can't be sold. No-one is selling the electricity your system generated before your account was set up.

We will all benefit by a fraction of a penny as grid losses (the difference between the amount of electricity officially put onto the grid and the amount sold to customers) will be slightly smaller.

According to UK Power Networks:

Electricity networks totalled 22.87TWh of energy losses in 2024

... so your 800kWh is a drop in the.bucket. But, as a popular supermarket chain says, "every little helps"!
