The Shetland 100 photo challenge

To celebrate the launch of the Shetland 100, we’re inviting locals and visitors to take part in our summer photo challenge. Share your experiences from the list for the chance to win return travel for four between Aberdeen and Shetland with cabin accommodation, courtesy of NorthLink Ferries.

The challenge runs until 16 August 2026 and every shared experience is a chance to inspire someone else’s next Shetland adventure.

How it works

1. Download the list
   Get your copy of the Shetland 100: The ultimate island bucket list. Choose from the print version or the digital version.
2. Get exploring
   Pick an activity (or several!) and head out to try something new – whether that’s kayaking along the coast, having a traditional Sunday tea or spotting a seal on a quiet beach.
3. Share your story
   Snap a photo or video as you go and upload it using our submission form or tag us on Instagram or Facebook. Use the hashtag #Shetland100 to join the community online.

Every entry submitted before 16 August 2026 will be entered into the prize draw to win return ferry travel for four between Aberdeen and Shetland, including cabin accommodation.

Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility: The Shetland 100 photography competition is open to anyone who lives in Shetland or anyone visiting the islands between 21st May 2026 and 16th August 2026. Under 18s must get permission from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) before entering. NB Communication Ltd employees and those contracted to work for Promote Shetland are not eligible to enter. To be eligible you must have correct permissions and/or rights to share any image(s) entered.

3. Entry and closing dates: Entries will be accepted as soon as the competition is live on Shetland.org from 00:01am 21st May 2026. All entries must be received by the closing date: 11.59pm on 16th August 2026.

4. How to enter: To enter the competition, you must share a photo via the Shetland 100 Photography Competition digital entry. This is available at shetland.org and may be shared on social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn or Twitter). You can enter multiple times, as long as you use the digital entry process each time.

10. Prizes: The prize consists of a return trip from Aberdeen (or Orkney) to Shetland, for four, with a standard cabin and a car. Upgrades are available upon request. No cash or other prize substitution. By accepting the prize the winner permits Promote Shetland to use the prize winner's name on social media and in shetland.org blog posts to promote the winning photographs. Your journey can be taken at any point from now until 31st December 2027. If you wish, it is also possible to gift your prize to a friend or family member.

11. Winner: All entries will be collated by Promote Shetland and shortlist of photographs will be selected. A winner will be selected from those images, and Promote Shetland may use a public vote to decide the winner. This vote may take place after the competition entry closing date. The winner will be notified via email. If the winner fails to claim the prize within 1 week from the time of the award notification was sent, the prize may be forfeited and another winner selected.
