If so Sixtyplusurfers has teamed up with the confectionery experts at Chocolates Direct to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a fabulous wicker hamper, brimming with the legendary taste of Bendicks of Mayfair.
This curated gift set is the perfect evening companion, featuring an array of Bendicks most celebrated mints paired with a fine bottle of Shiraz red wine.
Whether you are looking to elevate your next dinner party or simply want a sophisticated treat to enjoy during a quiet night in, this hamper represents the best of British confectionery tradition.
The Story of a British Icon
The name Bendicks is synonymous with prestige, but the brand’s origins are as humble as they are passionate. The story began in 1920 when Mr Oscar Benson and Colonel Bertie Dickson purchased a small confectionery business in Kensington, London. By combining the first syllables of their surnames, Bendicks was born.
The pair shared a singular ambition, to create chocolate of such uncompromising quality that they would stand alone in the luxury market. It wasn’t long before they achieved a breakthrough that would change the world of mint chocolate forever. In 1931, the famous “Bittermint “ was developed. It was a daring creation – a firm, peppermint fondant centre so strong it required a coating of incredibly dark, 95% cocoa solids to balance the intensity.
The Bittermint became an instant sensation among London’s elite, earning Bendicks a reputation for sophistication. The brand’s commitment to excellence was officially recognised in 1962 when it was awarded a Royal Warrant by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
A Royal Tradition Continued
The Royal Warrant is a mark of recognition for those who have supplied goods or services to the Households of the British Royal Family for at least five years, and who demonstrate excellence, quality and sustainability. For decades Bendicks has maintained this prestigious status.
In a continuation of the history, the brand is proud to hold the Royal Warrant from His Majesty King Charles III. This seal of approval on every box is more than just a crest; it is a guarantee that the chocolates meet the highest standards and are literally fit for a king.
What’s inside the hamper
The winner will receive a reusable wicker hamper containing Bendicks mint collection, Bendicks bittermints, mint fondants and a bottle of double barrel matured Shiraz to complement the rich dark chocolates.
