If everyone was given the choice at the start of either weekly, monthly, or 4-weekly, I can tell you with utter certainty which option would be selected the least. Just because something has happened for decades doesnt make it the best option (although I appreciate this is due to creaking systems, legislation etc).

I think the weekly benefit is something of an anachronism, the days of queueing up at the post office to collect your pension prior to a visit to the grocers and putting a few shillings in the meter belong firmly in the previous century. But of all the things for govt. to sort out this would be low on the list.

I would have signed this, I would much prefer to be paid monthly. However, it is worded in such a way as to remove any other option (e.g. weekly payments) which guarantees it will not go through. A shame.

Think first of your goal, then make it happen!

I'm in receipt of SP, and I like the quirkiness of it being four weekly. I wouldn't change it if I was given an option.

It would be interesting to know the percentages of people who pay their national insurance, weekly, fortnightly, four weekly, monthly and maybe even yearly.

My assumption is that the present system helps save (reduce) goverment borrowing for to fund the state pension.

    Well I currently have:

    • Salary paid on the last working day of the month
    • Occupational pension paid on the 15th of each month or nearest working day, and
    • PIP paid 4 weekly

I actually quite like having several income streams hitting my account at different times. In my very first job I was paid fortnightly, and when we were finally pushed onto monthly pay there were howls of protest!

If calendar monthly had been an option when we started to draw our State pensions we would have probably gone for it. But 4 weekly is working out fine - our RAF pensions go in on the 27th (or the last working day before) and our CS and LGPS pensions go in on the last working day, so easy enough to synchronise our outgoings.

The Govt doesn't need to borrow to pay state pensions. I suggest you look up the workings of the NI fund.
