Moving House - energy price cap rise
Hi, we’re due to move house at the end of July. Our current energy fixed rate ends on 6th September but I know we’ll be going onto a standard rate once we move. Will there be any decent fixed rate offers at the end of July or do we have any option to organise something ahead of moving? Thank you

Some suppliers will let you move your tariff, others will not. In reality there will be fixes, decent is subjective. In reality you have little choice and the cost will be irrelevant compared to the cost of moving.

It's also impossible to say what sort of fixed deals may be on offer a month away I'm afraid - particularly at the moment where world events are tending towards the volatile, let's say!
Good luck with the move!

Thank you, it’s a bit of a wait and see scenario then really.

Have you asked your current supplier if you can take your tariff with you?

I haven’t because the tariff ends on 6th September so I didn’t think there was much point for a month

… another month gives you a little time to make up your mind…
No certainties though, it could get even worse in a month …

If your supplier will move you can avoid the deemed supplier SVT stop gap - which could be worthwhile since the July cap has gone up just over 13% - but if your new home dual fuel - bear in mind the gas unit rate by double that (27.7% to 7.33p/kWh average).
And thats just the July step - chances are you might also see impact of the £87 in Ofgem network and CMS extras added to SVT in April - that wouldnt have been added to your current fix in April - at the time when the budget £130 (at cap TDCV) removed (assuming your supplier was part of ECO scheme).
So SVT - even although in summer - so lower use months - might still come as a bit of jolt - vs your current fix.
But as others have said - energy differences - will be in £10s or £100s - even over a full year - a tiny fraction of the costs of moving - but it could be worth a quick phone call now whilst you have the time - you might have many other things to sort the first n weeks into a new house.
