Sewing machine.
I bought an industrial sewing machine - it was delivered on April 8 2026. I lost my husband in January and didn't turn on the machine until yesterday. It comes up with an error message which means it is jammed. I contacted the supplier who is saying it is a maintenance issue, How can it be? Surely maintenance is what you do when you have used an item

Lack of use can also cause maintenance issues, such as oil starvation.

There were no instructions to fill the machine with oil straight away.
This machine didn't have a lack of use - it was never used.
I previously had an industrial machine which sometimes was not used for a couple of months and I had no problems with it.
Isn't it normal to expect a machine to work when it is brand new?

What has the company suggested now has to be done?
Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1 -
it probably needs oiling

How do they know if it is a maintenance issue if they haven’t inspected it?
I presume this was an online purchase?
ETA - as it’s an industrial machine was this a business to business contract?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.1 -
elsien - This wasn't a business contract.
I wasn't feeling strong enough mentally to deal with the machine issue yesterday. I had been sent a text which I hadn't read.
This morning the company phoned me.
On Monday a chap is coming with a brand new machine - setting it up and taking the other one away. They mentioned signing something when the machine is shown to be working. Is this something I have to do?

Depends what is.
If it’s an acknowledgement that they’ve taken the old machine away and are giving you a new one that is simply a statement of fact so there is no reason not to sign it.
