Fuse Energy
Hi after receiving the latest mse email update I thought I'd better get a move on and find a cheaper energy deal, I compared on energy club and decided to switch to Fuse (cheapest in my case), however what energy club failed to say was they do a credit check ( I'm with octopus (London energy)and £194 in credit on electric and octopus for gas £118 in credit, after starting the switch through energy club I received an email from Fuse saying my account had been flagged and they wanted £500 prepayment to join, as I'm a pensioner and untill I'd be refunded by octopus that'd leave me over £800 in energy credit which is a years with of energy cost to me and to be frank is quite ridiculous,do all energy companies do credit checks

All energy companies can do credit checks, although not all bother.
Fuse seem to be a bit of an outlier with their deposit requests; we get more mentions of them asking for deposits than we do for every other supplier put together.

Heres the information on credit checks from MSE (also noted on the cheap energy club site)

I switched energy today too from Octopus to EDF, I did notice Fuse was a bit cheaper but I went for the brand I recognised.
I did't use energy club I used Uswitch,

I just switched from EDF (expiring fix) to Fuse (13 month fixed) dual fuel. Both unit rates & standing charges a fair bit cheaper than EDF. Switch only took 2 working days, only hassle was having to supply photos of meters (no smart meters installed). No credit check was required, as far as I know.

BG to Fuse (15 month dual fuel fix)…switch was pretty quick and had to take photo of smart electric meter (not their fault seems to be a communication issue with that meter).
Been quietly impressed so far by Fuse…but let's wait and see but been good so far.

I have been happy with Fuse Energy since my switch to them on 15th May. Their 13months(May) fixed tariff.
I submitted a favourable review in Playstore and commented that the consumption bar graph had been removed from the app., with only the line graph available.
I received an e-mail from them last week. They did phone me but it showed as "Private number" which I didn't answer. The e-mail confirmed that my comment had been noted and the latest version of the app. now had the bar graph function re-instated. I personally prefer that graph.
I am still of the opinion they should provide a contact 'phone number.

Then your rate would go up if they have to employ a couple of shifts of telephone operators. The live chat can be infuriating but keeps costs fown.
The only problem I have had was they changed our meter which worked for a month (sending readings) before becoming intermittent and the dying completely. Three attempts at repair, adding booster, aerial etc. On the fourth visit the replaced the whole meter and all has been fine ever since and I received my £40 credit for the delay in sorting it out.

They didn't say anything to me but I have been with them for 18 months now so maybe things have changed. Generally speaking I find them pretty good. They respond fairly quickly in the app with humans not AI and their developers do seem to listen and take on board constructively critical comments about the app. And they are often cheaper than other companies.
Have you spoken to them about it? £500 seems extreme because they must see your credit with the other energy companies and you pay in full monthly with Fuse so they don't need that much to cover their butts. I'd take it up with them - explain what you said here.

Update, after switch a week ago, they have supplied my gas reading to previous supplier (final bill received), but not electricity reading. I was asked to supply a photo of both meters on switchover day, and whereas the gas reading was automatically extracted from the photo, the electric reading was not, so had to be reviewed manually.
I followed up by online chat, they were quick to respond, hopefully it'll be sorted out soon.
On the positive side, I'm happy that their default payment method is monthly variable direct debit, which is my preferred payment method (pay for what you use monthly). With my old supplier, I had to call them to request a switch from monthly fixed to variable. I handle higher Winter bills by putting some money aside in a savings account.

Can you explain to a Newbie how to contact Fuse? I have had a difficult switch to them and can't find my way to any chat or (luxury!) phone number.
