London Theatre query

I'm going to see Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap on 6th August at 3 pm, and I'm staying in the Hub by Premier Inn in Shoreditch. I've got an offer on another show I would like to see (The Comedy About Spies) on the same day in the evening (starting at 7 pm). Has anyone ever seen two plays in one day before? Is this doable?

Many thanks

Very doable. The mousetrap is just over 2 hours, so youll be done by 530 and the next theatre is 5 mins away. You'll have time for dinner between the shows!

Are you asking if you could get back to Shoreditch between shows?

The show ends at 5, you'd be hitting peak busy public transport, I wouldn't (and I used to live close to there).

No problem doing a matinee and evening show in a day, done it several times. I'd normally look for an early meal between shows.

No I was thinking of getting to the hotel after both shows. Seeing as there's only a 7 minute walk (according to Google). I shouldn't need to catch a bus or train at that time. I assume it should still be fairly easy to catch a train when the second ends (at around 9:45 pm from what I can gather.)

No problems at that time, bus or tube. Few ways to do it, Google Maps is your friend.

Oh I know that. With my many trips down to London to watch shows. Funnily enough.

Personally I'd recommend CityMapper over Google maps for transport/routing if you're using it on a phone.

The "TfL Go" app is also good for seeing status etc. of tube lines

Along the same vein, in the winter I usually find a nice bar to relax in but in the summer a walk around town is much my preferred option. For me, the risk of returning to the hotel is getting so comfortable that I don't want to budge! (Much the same as if I need to go out after work, its not a good idea to make a cup of tea etc).

I still occasionally do a theatre double but is not ideal now I live outside London. Train fares are ridiculous, so I usually drive to zone 4 and then take the tube in from there, which puts the kybosh on any kind of drinking and becomes harder with age - stamina is a limiting factor!

That said, I did a very memorable double in May last year: Choir of Man matinee, followed by Dear England in the evening. It was a wonderful reminder of what a great privilege it is to be English, naysayers might deride aspects of our culture but our creative arts are second to none.

No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Should be easily doable. Maybe make a plan to allow some time to walk around between the two shows to grab a quick bite to eat after the first show and leave time to walk around before you're sat still for another 2 hours.

Restaurants right in the theatre district are very busy during the pre-theatre timeslot so either make a reservation early or plan to grab something more casual rather than a sit down.
