Confused by pip extension

Hi

I just got a letter in the post saying that my pip due to run out August 2027 is being extended to August 2028. However the wording is confusing me.

Your current PIP award has been extended to 8 August 2028

You do not need to do anything. We will contact you again after

8 August 2027 to see if your needs have changed and if you are

getting the right amount of PIP

We may extend the end date of your PIP award again. If we do

we will write to you to tell you about this

We will continue to pay your PIP payments as normal.

Ive looked into it and according to online they are doing this to ease worry for claimants and also the backlog. But surely being told rhat tou are extended but then could chabge between 2027 and 2028 will cause them stress as waiting for pip review papers to come through anyway.

.I have got more conditions affecting my mobility and general day to day living but will wait until the review papers. According to searching my pip claim will be more cemented due to how these conditions affect me.

Thank you

They have extended your award as they don't expect to be able to undertake the review before your award ends, they are saying that you will likely be contacted between Aug 27 and Aug 28.

Had the award not been extended, your award would run to 8 August 2027 and it should state on your original PIP award letter that PIP would get in touch with you at some point after 8 August 2026 (i.e. from two months time).

By extending your award by 1 year, to 8 August 2028, this also extends the date when PIP will get in touch with you by 1 year, to after 8 August 2027.

We may extend the end date of your PIP award again: this is to allow the DWP some leeway in case the backlog of reviews is still in place. I guess that if the end date is extended once more then this would happen around this time next year.
