Carpet fitting job

can someone please advise regarding a carpet that I have just had fitted on my stairs and landing. I’ve noticed holes, gaps and slices in the carpet. I’d also just paid a painter to completely redo the hallway and the fitter has taken chunks out of the wood. I’ve already had to get him to replace parts of the carpet whereby he didn’t cut the edge straight revealing the wooden step underneath. He then came back out to sort out the hole but just seemed to staple it. Since then I’ve found about her gap around the door bar and areas where the carpet is sliced.

The usual response to work like that is "Did he arrive on a horse?" because he's definitely a cowboy. That work is terrible, he has no need to damage any wood and he's obviously not too good with a knife. I'm surprised there aren't any bloodstains on the carpet, did you count his fingers?

Totally unacceptable rubbish job. Was the fitter self employed, or does he work for whoever supplied your carpet?

This isn't a 'come back and fix it' job - that carpet needs scrapping, the damage to your wood and paintwork properly repaired, and a new carpet fitted. By someone else.

I don't rate your painter, either.

Ha ha that did make me laugh even though I’m crying on the inside.I’m just glad he’s not a brain surgeon. He’s self employed and has offered to pay for a new carpet. It’ll need ripping up and removing as I’ve since found some other nasties.

Hatchet job to the woodwork with his tools too. First time I’ve hired a painter so I’m interested to know what needs to be done as he is also finishing off another room in the house. What does he need to address with the finish?

I'm not a professional decorator, but I was well taught by my late dad. Basically, a good finish is all in the preparation - and your woodwork needs a really good rub down followed by a decent quality undercoat and then gloss. Looking at your pictures, your decorator skipped the rub down and undercoat and just slapped on the gloss.

Where did you you find these two?

Agreed; I'm a slapdash DIYer but even my carpet fitting is better than that!

my first thoughts are that looks like second hand carpet and the holes cuts etc are where it went round the radiator pipes in the original.property

the decorator did sand everything, he used aquaguard primer then several top coats finished with a dead flat decorators varnish but I think the carpet fitter completely wrecked the paint chipping several layers of with his tools.

Sorry, but he didn't sand hard enough. Even without the carpet fitter's fubar, the final finish isn't good.
