British Gas switch to Aug27 rejected
I saw the newsletter about the new Fixed low tariff last night and immediately did a switch.
I got CEC's "Switch in progress" email.
Then, this morning, another email to say British Gas has rejected the switch.
I'm a long-time British Gas customer on an existing tariff, expiring in July, within 49 days.
I quickly did another switch through CEC this morning. Again got CEC's "Switch in progress" email. Now waiting.
I'll be unhappy if I've missed out on this, having done it twice.

I don't know why this would have happened. Never happened before.

You're not the first, and I doubt you'll be the last. Whenever there's a good BG deal on the Cheap Energy Club we get a handful of threads like this.
I don't think anyone's ever worked out exactly why this is, or how to avoid it.

Failed a second time, for unexplained reason. Switched via phone.

Energy companies set a quota limit when they issue a new tariff.
If it proves "good value for money" and is popular the limit is filled quickly and they reject further applications.
They often then change to an updated tariff (version x+1) with higher prices.
Many energy suppliers, including BG, are rubbish at updating their website and referrers.
The available by phone/not available on line effect is either incompetence or policy..I know not which, but has been observed with other suppliers too.
Suggest that's what's happened to you.
Edit p.s. Telephone customer service often tell you something's done, only for the supplier to later inform you it's not done. The staff and system are not updated and working in sync. This has happened to me with BG before I left them vowing to never ever ever use them again.

I've always insisted on an email confirming details. The one time I didn't get an email (from Virgin), I got stiffed on agreed prices. Of course, the conversation wasn't recorded, so they denied any knowledge of the agreed rates. Now I use chat or email so that I have a hard copy to beat a supplier around the head should they try to wriggle out.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Aug27 tariff appears in my account dashboard.

I switched Thursday (25th June) lunchtime. My account has already switched and DD set up, new online account with BG. Email within 3 hours from my old energy company that they can see I’m switching away. So it definitely isn’t a quota issue if OP applied in the morning.
