If your AC isn't cold enough - use recirculation mode

Only if you leave it on recirculation all the time.

But you can have recirc on without the AC on, so OMG, drive a car and you will die!

If using rec mode, ensure your cabin filter is clean.

Once it's cooler inside than outside, into recirc mode

That makes no sense to me.

I read an article which basically said, for a single occupant, the risk of CO2 being an issue is essentially zero. However, for a car full of people, you should switch from recirc mode to non-recirc mode every 25(?) minutes or so. Can't find the article now unfortunately. The issue is drowsiness or fatigue - leading to crashing the car - rather than being suffocated due to lack of oxygen.
Re above - makes sense. If the air is cooler inside than out, recirculating that air helps the air con cool cooler air. If it is cooler outside than in, then it is easier to cool the outside air until it is cooler inside.

Really? Isn't it what the whole thread is about?

The problem arises if the vehicle has been sat in the sun for some time - the body of the vehicle absorbes heat and then the aircon struggles to bring the temperature down.

Oh well, there we are then. Simple really.

My Climate Control ( like most modern cars it's CC not AC) is fully automatic - I simply select the temperature I want.
The passenger in the front and the rear passengers can select a different temperature if they wish.
Re-circ is automatic - it is designed to detect pollutants in the incoming air, such as diesel / petrol fumes and such.
If I were to manually switch to recirc rather than auto the car generally changes back to auto after 8 minutes to avoid the cabin having what the handbook describes as 'stale air'.
I've never switched off the CC since I bought the car over three years ago, and only twice chose to have recirc for a short period.
