Exempt excepted estate - how exact the value should be for probate

I am waiting for the balance of an indexed linked saving certificate from NS&I before I can apply for probate for my husband. It is more than two months now since I reported the death but I still wait for a reply. We got an updated value from husband's NS&I account before he passed. Can I use that value for probate as it won't make any difference for an exempt excepted estate. Or should I better wait for the exact figure?

I'd run with the advised value just before he passed.

Spot on accuracy not important for exempt excepted estates, and you have no CGT concerns when you eventually encash the certs since they are CGT exempt.

I went with the estimated interest figure from the NS&I website just after Mum died so I could submit the form to the Sheriff Court in Edinburgh. I notified NS&I on 8 April - I finally received their letter with the valuations yesterday - 11 weeks later. So glad I didn't wait!!!

@jacklia Yes it's frustrating to wait for that long. I rang the NS&I and have been told a letter has been sent out on 17/06 but I still haven't got it. The staff said that he would resend it. It is not even a letter for the balance, it is asking for additional document before they can disclose the account balance.

@lake888 when I phoned last week, they told me my letter was sent out on 12 June - it finally arrived on 25 June, so yours may arrive in a few days. It included the letter with the balances at the time of Mum's death and a form to complete/return along with the Grant of Confirmation (we're in Scotland).
