I was looking for a reliable source for the claim tin foil on the inside of a DG unit will/could cause cracking… those I found using google all seem to be social media posts referencing nothing other than social media posts.

Trouble is, now I've seen the possibility of cracking windows, I can't get it out of my head 🤣

If you want put kitchen foil on the windows to reflect the sunlights then yes put it outside so that the reflected heat goes outside

if you put it inside the windows the reflected heat will go onto the glass and could crack it if it gets hot enough

Installing inside heats up the DG units even more and facilitates the seals between the two panels oozing and failing as they get even hotter. Panels seals can and do fail anyway, but I wouldn't install inside.

Installing outside may make people think you a little strange but it does work, but bubble foil insulation is better and much easier to install. It needs secure fixing though it the wind will take it.

Does it make a difference? Yes about a degree temperature delta in the room by 4pm for me. Might not seem a lot but you really notice it. I install as soon as the solar radiance is starting to register.
