Heatwave compensation
I have train travel booked for today from split ticket and a hotel room booked for two nights in brighton for work.
What are my chances for getting refunds considering Network Rail have advised against non-essential travel?

You should be able to get a refund or change of date for your train tickets - see under ' Alterations, Easements and Advice' here
Incident: Hot weather | National Rail
Suspect you won't have as much joy with the hotel though unless the T&C allow for refunds for short term cancellations.

What is your train operating company's position on both services and refunds today?
Likewise the hotel - it seems far less likely that you'd be entitled to a refund here, but have you booked at a refundable rate?

This is from network rail:
https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service-disruptions/hot-weather-20260617/
"If you decided not to travel on 23 June, or wish not to travel on 24 or 25 June, you can claim a full refund with no admin fee charged. You can apply for a refund via the retailer you originally purchased your ticket from."
The hotel will be a different matter and will depend on your booking terms. If the hotel is still open and there's no advisory against hotel stays then they won't be obliged to refund you (beyond any refunds already covered in your booking terms).

Thanks! Will check that out.

If the trains are running, somewhere between slim chance and fat chance.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Not true.

Surely travelling and staying for work is essential travel.

Depends on the purpose.
It may be for something that can be reorganised, especially if several others are similrlt affected.

Quite a few years back I was stuck on an "air conditioned" train in a heatwave (not as bad as this one) when the air con broke down.
It was not pleasant. As a healthy young[ish] man I wasn't feeling great at the end of it - for people who had underlying health issues it would have been considerably worse.0
