Morning everyone
Just a quickie from me as my friend and I are having a trip on the bus to Alnwick and I'm not dressed yet. We're going to have a look round the charity shops and go for lunch at a lovely cafe I found last time I was there. Only downside is that it will be hot on the bus I expect!
Sports day went well yesterday, though it was very hot for the kids to be running. At least we had big gazebos to sit under which a couple of dads with businesses had lent them…the families had to sit in the sun. Little one was thrilled to win 2 races, the sack race and the obstacle race and not to be last in any. We do it the modern way, so you can't shout out individual names and they all get a sticker for trying, but the kids still know if they're first or last! I can still remember hating sports day as I was useless at any sports.
Yorkslass I hoped yesterday passed for you with lots of good memories
Camelot - good for you, ridiculous for them to think you would wait for answers during the holidays.
Best hurry up, I hope everyone has a good day x

Morning all, hope you are all ok & thanks for starting Scarlet.
Hope you enjoy your bus trip @dp1 , I enjoyed mine yesterday. I sat upstairs near an open window 😀 so I could take in the nice views along the way. I bought a pair of shorts ( which I'm wearing today), and 2 nighties off the market, then got some pork pies and some cheese, and salad which we used last night for tea with salad. Probably the same again tonight. The walk back from the bus stop was a bit hot, I cut across the park.
This morning I was watering next doors plants at front and back so I put Ldogs lead on and we went to say hello to DS2 when he was picking DH up, watered the front and then their back so he thinks he's had a walk .
Hugs YorksLass, hope DS finds something soon.
My mind has now gone blank so I'll wish you all a good day 😊and go and bring my green bin in ( the bin men started work at 6am to beat some of the heat)

ROSY we had a message telling us to have our bins out by 5 am this week to beat the heat!! That'll wake a few people up early with all the clattering and banging of bottles as it's recycling day tomorrow!
As expected lunch is cancelled as DF is struggling in this heat. So just had a rummage in the freezer and got out a few easy bits for today's eats. Boiling my breakfast egg was the limit to my cooking today!

Morning, thanks for the start @Scarlet.
Thanks all for the good wishes on what could have been a depressing day. You're right @TA, it doesn't get any easier but you learn to live with it. I'll be fine now until the end of October when it will be the second anniversary of DH's passing but I'll deal with that when it arrives. On a more cheerful note, I had a pleasant enough day just pottering around and even watched (some) of the footie last night. Not the best of matches, I thought. At one point during one of the hydration breaks DS and I were sitting outside eating a cornet. 😁 It's lovely to have doors and windows open but we did seem to spend quite a bit of time evicting flies, moths and daddy long legs - all that space outside but they still want to come inside! 🙄
I slept well last night, despite the heat, but today (and tomorrow) it's going to be a scorcher and we're under an amber weather warning for both days with temperatures reaching the high 30s. The school run and roadworks I mentioned are still making for traffic congestion in the mornings with the added complication of bin day thrown into the mix today. I felt so sorry for them (and anyone else) working in this heat and hope they finish their round before it gets unbearable. When I was emptying the kitchen bin earlier I bumped into the postie who asked if he could have a drink of water - of course he could, in fact he had two.
Tea tonight will be lamb & mint kebabs (air fryer) and ??, most likely salad of some description. This morning's breakfast was a bit of a mish-mash - a crust of wholemeal bread, toasted and topped with mashed banana and a sprinkle of cinnamon, a pain au chocolat and some grapes. Quick and easy enough to cook, used up bits and quite sufficient for me in this heat. Yet more laundry is drying outside - surely there can't be anything else! The hanging baskets had a good watering early doors and I might even do it again tonight if it's as hot as promised.
@remmie - Cheers to the sink being finished! I had to laugh at your DH's new-found fame at the DIY shop. 🤣 Priceless!
@Chrisca - Having all the floors replaced will be a pain in the bum but worth it to have what you want.
@camelot - I agree, much better if the work situation can be sorted before the holiday break. My final employer went through a similar process but left us dangling over the Xmas period before we found out what was really happening, not a nice experience. Fortunately I was in a position to consider asking for early retirement - which I did - and got. 😁
@Gers - Glad you've got your hearing aid sorted out, sounds as if you had a productive and successful day.
@Izzy - Yes, DS is fed up at the job situation but I know he won't throw in the towel and something will turn up eventually. He's not being picky, hasn't narrowed down his choices and is quite willing to re-train if that's what it takes.
@WL - I'm very impressed you have people in their 80s taking part!
@TA - Sorry your lunch date has been cancelled but better safe than sorry.
Nothing else springs to mind so I'll wish everyone a good day. Stay cool and hydrated, look after yourselves (and the pets). xx
Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
Hi everyone,
I hope you are managing to stay cool. I don't want to sound smug but I am so glad we invested in the air con for the living room, It's actually cooling the kitchen as well - both rooms would have been unbearable in this heat because they face south.
I have spent the past three days cleaning our (pale blue settee) with an eco friendly recipe, it was quite strenuous but it looks a lot better. We have had it about 10 years and may think about getting it reupholstered in the next year or two. It's Ercol (a really good sale buy) so worth it.
Esben's school has shut for today and tomorrow, Laura has taken him to the cinema to try to keep cool. Esther's nursery has aircon so Laura is sending her there as the best place to be. I don't know how Nate and Crystal are faring, hopefully they will be ok.
Have a good day
