Cheap materials
I find this a massive problem these days
It started for me with running t shirts
You are pointed towards thin polyester "wicking" t shirts. Yes they don't absorb the sweat as much but they end up smelling and even a wash doesn't clean it properly
Much better a 100 cotton t shirt which does absorb the sweat but will dry and does not smell after
Same with bedding, I'm learning that linen and wool are much better materials for keeping you warm and cool than polyester and cheap cotton blends.
I'd love to hear experiences with materials of any kind and what to look for and avoid. Its like the manufacturers make the cheapest products possible theycan get away with which they pushes up the price of the better quality materials we would all benefit from using.

The reality is people seem to want cheap throw away products as that is what they are used to these days.
The market just supplies what people want, whether the suppliers directed the market that way is another long discussion.
We call it the Primark effect.
Having said that 100% cotton sheet or fitted mattress sheet £13 or lower. What price were you expecting.
Cotton t shirts £4.99 for a pack of 4 !!!

So right about the running t-shirts. Only way I have found to stop the smell is to wash on a lower temperature (no idea why this seems to work!)

I do all my running and gym work in Under Armour moisture wicking polyester T-shirts, never had an issue with them smelling after washing. I wash them at 30, Arial liquid, add a scoop of oxygen bleach, which is there to keep them bright white. The only issue with any T shirt regardless of material is antiperspirant which will build up, cause marks under armpits and smell awful, though can be removed with distilled vinegar. Two hours in the gym though I do not need antiperspirant, I arrive clean, train, shower and then put it on.

Drying things in the sunlight may help with getting rid of smells. There's a mildly disinfectant quality to sunlight (and it's cheaper than electricity).

Back in the day my mother used to tack cotton handkerchiefs into woolen sweaters and you could buy cotton pieces with a waterproof lining for doing the same thing.
Clothes went longer between washes and there were no persperation stains or smells.
Takes 10 mins to do.
Now you don't even have to sew
Ewwww must get tiny URL on here 🙄

I don't think many runners would agree with you. Most of the (extremely amateur) people in my running group much prefer polyester.

I have a few hiking T shirts, all of which claim to be treated with various compounds to stop them smelling, but none of them work well. A warm day in the mountains will make any of them pong a bit and a multi day hike is best done solo or with someone you know very well!
Merino is the only thing I’ve found which combines light weight with absolutely no odour but boy is it expensive stuff!

If you are using public transport when going off to the hills, you get plenty of personal space coming back 😀
