Unsolicited email offering refund on car rental insurance
We hired a car 18 months ago and suddenly had an email asking for proof that we had bought CDW insurance- which I provided- they rejected first offering from me, but accepted second document I sent (is that trying to lull me into security?). So now, for small refund of 28Euros, they want my card details to pay me back. But of course not the same card as we paid with, as 18 months later. They do have correct last 4 digits of old card. Emails are from CovermoreGB.com
So, I am here to ask about safety of CovermoreGB.com asking for card details for refund 18 months after the event for 33euros. Do we give them our card details?
Thanks all for your advice- very grateful.

If they were genuine they would already hold your card details - so all they would have to do is send you an e-mail to confirm this.
Do not respond to this.

Why not give them a ring and ask?
To reach Cover-More UK (Covermore GB), you can call their main Customer Service team on 01245 272 408

But they do have the card details, they quote the last four digits, in effect they are asking for this confirmation.
If the card is still functioning perhaps ask that they use those details (without giving further info)?

Thanks- as I said they have the last 4 digits of the old card. I will try ringing them as suggested- thanks and also ask Halifax if can use that card number again and they then move money to credit our new card.

sadly, that number from flaneurs_lobster didn't get through to anyone who could help, but I tried a number on email from them and that seemed genuine. Still trying Halifax as they want our bank account details and would prefer to give them a card to refund. It all seems to be a possible scam- and the telephone number on email is part of it.

I would do as Mr Lobster suggests and tell them to refund to the card they already have the details of.
Confirm to them the details should be correct because the last four numbers are from that card they quoted.
If that card is still active?

So you were contacted via email unexpectedly and offered a refund on a product that you had purchased 18 months ago and had otherwise been happy with at the time? All you need to do is give them your credit card details? You tried to contact them via official means (the number flaneurs gave you) but didn't get you anywhere so you contacted the number in the email and they 'seemed genuine'?
It does sound like how scams work.
