Problems with AOL broadband

Help !! Went round to mate's house to sort out his pc as it was running very slow, etc. Got online with AOL (his ISP) and updated XP (which hadn't been updated since August !!) and AVG. Then, after re-booting, the d@mn thing wouldn't connect via AOL again !!! Then he told me AOL had been going a bit dickey for a couple of months. Ran out of time after trying allsorts, so at home printed off the AOL help FAQ for him. Said he'd try and work through it today but haven't heard if it's done yet. I tried all the obvious things, but anyone got any suggestions other than a full AOL re-install??? He's on v.9 and a bt voyager modem, which seems to be sending/receiving data okay, but won't let you actually view any web pages even if you go direct through ie.
Cheers in anticipation....

I've not experienced any problems with AOL lately and the only technical problem they have that I am aware of is the search facility which they are looking at.When AOL does play up I find it less time consuming to reinstall the programme. Another alternative is for him to contact AOL and ask if the server in his area is working ok. A couple of years ago I had lots of problems which we thought were related to our computer and it turned out that AOLs local server was the problem.0

cheers xerox - the last piece of paper I gave him had the tech support number on it so he could call them !! I'd be inclined to just re-install it from scratch, I just ran out of time
will have to see over the next couple of days if he gets it sorted or I'll have to pop back there and have another crack at it... ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

if he has no joy try turning off all the anti virus & firewalls, then see if you can connect.
You can always use system restore to undo any changes0
