only pay in £250 in old notes per visit
If that's really what they said, have they got a limit on the number of visits you're allowed per day? Not even joking.
If they actually mean "per day" then they should say so!

if the OP is not the estate administrator they may well have difficulties here. In these circumstances the BoE will need a copy of the grant of probate / letters of administration or a copy of the will so only the the executor / administrator of the estate is going to be able to use that route.

I was looking at this once for NatWest for someone who asked on Reddit and they let you exchange up to £500 but allowed you to deposit as much as you wanted though recommended calling the day before - you could then move the money out again which achieves the same thing but would not just give you say £10k in new notes in exchange
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have looked at the BoE option but it wouldn't be practicle for me.
i used to live in London and have no wish to ever visit it again. ( especially not with £5000 In cash in my pocket )
I collect my post from the post office once a week so it will have to be 20 weeks of payments i guess.
I could swap my bank account to Nationwide that has a branch in my town and get £175 and have two cash paying in options.

You can only exchange £300 in old bank notes in a two year period using the post office.

Open new accounts with different banks. Or could get family members to also do some depositing into their accounts
