Public Liability Insurance

Hi,

My Son is 15 and is doing a lot of photography at different sporting events etc.

He needs to have at least 2 million public liability insurance to be able to photograph some events. But we are struggling to find anywhere that will provide the insurance due to his age.

Hopefully someone on here will be able to point us in the right direction..

Thanks

As a minor contracts, other than contracts of necessity, are not legally binding on them and as such companies won't generally do things like selling PL insurance to them given the uneven relationship… there's an exception for Motor insurance because there is a legal requirement.

Is he actually "working" or doing it as a hobby? If its unpaid and just a hobby then your Home Content's insurance is highly likely to have a PL section that would cover them

Another alternative is to look at a photographic society, some of those their membership includes PL insurance or access via a scheme that may be comfortable with the young age

If its paid work so out of the scope of home insurance then they are likely to need to either go into partnership with someone over 18 (eg you) and you be the one that buys the policy, some insurers at least will be ok as long as one person is over 18

Have any venues actually asked to seen evidence of the insurance? We do exhibitions etc and whilst we do hold PL I dont recall any venue actually asking for evidence of it. Given they are a minor the venue couldn't take action against them for breach of contract but obviously if they do ask for evidence then you may not be allowed in without it.

    Thanks for the reply.

I will have a chat with my house insurance first as that would be ideal.

It's just a couple of the things he wants to do require him to provide proof of the insurance.

    Just a quick update.

My house insurance public liability wouldn't cover my son.
