    indeed, the whole idea behind this is so that they determine if there is a real 'live' person making the request, and that persons biometrics match those of the identity document that has been provided.

    Things have moved on a little from the old days of going to a branch and showing them your passport. Or having to post certified copies of documents.


    And because it is technically easier with the vast majority of people having smartphones, these sorts of checks are now being done on a 'per transaction' basis rather than just when you open an account (and periodically after that).


    Concerns about data security are valid - but then I was never entirely happy about sending sensitive document copies of documents through the post, so perhaps nothing has really changed. Either way, this is the new reality if you want a modern account…
