NHS app viewing notes

We moved to a new area and changed GP surgery.

From then, we can no longer see our notes/records in the app. (Prescription ordering is OK)

I have spoken to receptionist and her only advice is to uninstall the app. That doesn't help!

I travel abroad a lot and it is good to have.

Any advice?

From my limited knowledge of the app, I believe what you get to see is dependant upon your GP practice.

For instance mine only allows sight of prescriptions, not medical notes or any illness

It is for this reason I have not bothered to add the app to my phone

Perhaps your new GP is the same?

As I understand it, viewing your GP notes via the NHS app has to be enabled / switched on by your new GP. AFAIK, in all but the the most exceptional circumstances, they are obliged to allow it.

You also have a right to a copy of all the data they hold about you, although they can make a charge for photocopying old hand written and typed material. Obviously very historic notes wouldn't show on the app if they have not been digitised.

I exercised my right to notes, x-rays and other information when my former dentist stopped offering NHS treatment. To be fair to them it was all emailed to me within 48 hours of my request.

I had the same experience. My old surgery was way ahead of the curve and had everything online, the new one was still in the dark ages. I remember the first time I went there I saw a sign that said everything will be online by - the date was about three years ago but still nothing was online. There's the odd note available now but nothing historic.

As someone else said what you can and cannot see is set by your GP practice. I previously couldn't see test results but not consultation notes but that has now switched.

Just to check, you've opened the app, tapped Appointments, then Appointment notes and other updates?

It used to be much more visible but after a recent update it's been hidden away in a daft area in my opinion - hopefully they'll tinker again and make it more visible in a future update.

All I get if I follow that route is loads of general messages inviting me to events/seminars, and bits saying my GP has done something at 2:03am but it doesn't say what.

From my understanding (we've been up in Scotland for a long while) the new GP is only required to show new details so it's possible that you'll never see the old notes via the app. That's if they enable it in the first place.

Up here we don't even get that, it can vary by region but here we can use Patient Access for submitting prescription orders but that's it. They're supposedly rolling out a new portal called MyCare.scot but it still seems to be in limited testing.

In as far as the NHS app is concerned the GP surgery may be able to control what appears. However, as I mentioned earlier, the patient still has a right to copies of everything the practice has on file and it may be if patients put in a subject access request that will focus their minds on making the information appear on the App.
