Urgent - query re proof of item collection, for an expensive returned item

Hi,

I bought a TV from a company trading on eBay, on arrival some issues with screen. They've been great and quickly arrange a collection for me, which is for tomorrow.

But, the collecting firm - called AIT - are apparently going to bring the postage label with them - so I won't have a copy of it. I will take a photo of course at collection time, but is a simple tracking number along with a photo at time of collection, sufficient for eBay purposes?

I'm sure the item will be delivered back to sender with no issues, but just want to make sure as it is an expensive item.

The retailer is arranging the collection, so all the liability lies with them, not you. Sensible to take a picture, and pics of condition before you package it, but you don't need anything beyond that.

So if the worst happened and the return didn't make it back to the seller (i.e. the courier lost it) then a phot would be sufficient evidence to submit to eBay, for them to issue a refund?

The courier has been arranged by the retailer, so any issues are entirely their problem and they would need to resolve them. Its worth having the photo as evidence if collection for your own piece of mind, but it would be the retailer dealing with ebay/courier if there are issues, not you.

I'd imagine the courier will give/email you a receipt to say they have received the parcel. Hopefully that will also show on ebay. Did you request the return through ebay?

That is important, is the return being done through ebay?

I would photograph everything, including the reg of the van from AIT - I have had personal dealings with that company and whilst it will have no impact at all on your own situation - I would never allow them near my house again.

Photograph the item being repackaged , photograph the packing box- all corners to ensure you have proof of the condition the box was in before you gave it to AIT.

Yes it's a proper return requested via eBay.

I'm just used to needing proof of postage for issues on eBay, so it seemed wrong not to then have proof of returning.

Most couriers don't seem to give a paper receipt any more so I don't want to be left at risk if the worst happens.
