Yes but that is much less likely than someone using savings. These things are judged on risk, most people wouldn't apply for a card and then immediately resign or in the knowledge the company was about to make people redundant but plenty of people need to use their savings for things like emergencies, holidays etc. You can get another job even if it's temporary work, can't just magic back the savings without a job like OP

It's a moot point regardless of how much you want to argue it though, a normal bank 100% will not accept a bank savings interest as income

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The only standard credit card that offers international transfers is Amex but you'd need to have had that in Canada. HSBC may have historically worked but sold their non-HNW business in Canada to RBC; that said HSBC UK is still fairly flexible for new immigrants.

Who are your current bankers and have you tried to get a starter credit card from them?
